Konya Ereğli İvriz Left Bank Irrigation SCADA System

A SCADA system built to monitor and control 60 deep wells, one pumping station and two collection basins across the İvriz Left Bank irrigation area from a single control room. The full scope — from series manufacturing of the wellhead automation panels through the RF telemetry infrastructure to field installation and operator training — was carried out under a single contractor's responsibility.

Scope of work

  • Engineering and series manufacturing of 60 wellhead automation panels
  • Pumping station control and automation panel
  • Level measurement and control at two collection basins
  • Programming of the wellhead RTUs
  • Installation of the RF telemetry infrastructure
  • Map-based central SCADA application
  • Field installation, kiosk erection, loop testing and commissioning

Technical solution

Field architecture

Each wellhead has a self-sufficient automation panel containing the motor drive, the protection devices and the field RTU. The well continues to run on its local control logic even if communication with the control centre is lost. Panels are installed inside prefabricated kiosks to protect them from field conditions.

RF telemetry

Because the irrigation area is large and a cabled backbone was not economical, well-to-centre communication was built on RF telemetry links. An antenna mast was erected on each wellhead kiosk and link quality was verified by field measurement.

Map-based SCADA

The operator sees running and stopped wells in real time on a satellite view. Selecting a well opens its detail screen with flow, level, current and status. Alarms are listed by priority, and historical data can be compared on the trend screen.

Panel manufacturing

To build 60 well panels to the same standard within a short schedule, a type design was prepared and manufacturing was run as a series. This shortened commissioning and reduced the spare-part and maintenance burden for the years that follow.

Outcome

Instead of an arrangement where 60 wells had to be visited individually, the whole scheme is now monitored and controlled from one screen. Faults and dry-running conditions are reported to the centre immediately, shortening response time, and well running hours can be recorded throughout the irrigation season.
