ASKİ 12 Pumping Station Automation Panels and SCADA Integration

Manufacturing, field installation and central SCADA integration of the automation panels for 12 pumping stations belonging to Ankara Water and Sewerage Administration (ASKİ). The new stations were integrated so that they run on the same protocol and data structure as the administration's existing infrastructure.

Scope of work

  • MCC and automation panel engineering for 12 stations
  • Panel manufacturing, wiring and labelling
  • Motorola ACE3600 RTU configuration and programming
  • Point-by-point integration into the existing central ASKİ SCADA system
  • Field installation, motorised valve and pump set connections
  • Loop testing, commissioning and client acceptance

Technical solution

Integration into a live system

In work of this kind the real difficulty is not panel manufacturing but adding new stations to a running SCADA system without interruption. The stations were equipped with the Motorola ACE3600 RTU family, ASKİ's field standard; signal lists, addressing and alarm definitions were prepared to match the administration's existing data structure exactly.

MCC and automation panel

At each station the pump motor control centre and the automation functions are solved within the same panel structure. Panels were manufactured after approval of the single line diagram and layout drawing, and the same standard was kept across all 12 stations.

Field equipment

Control and feedback signals of the pump sets and motorised valves were brought into the panel; after field wiring, every point was individually verified by loop test.

Why a standard panel design pays off

Building 12 stations on the same panel architecture means the operations team learns a single structure and spare parts can be shared between stations. Response time in the event of a fault is noticeably shorter.

Outcome

All 12 pumping stations are now monitored from the administration's existing central SCADA screens in the same layout as the rest of the network. No separate software or second control room was required, and operations continued on one system.
